N.E.mation! is an annual inter-school digital animation competition organised by Nexus, for students from secondary schools, junior colleges and centralised institutes to express their thoughts on Total Defence. The competition has been very well-received, reaching more than 15,000 students participants over the last decade since its inception in 2007. With training and guidance, students with no prior experience in animation have been able to produce clips of broadcast quality to screen on free-to-air television. Some of these clips were even selected for international animation festivals and won several awards.

N.E.mation! 10 Champion team with Guest-of-Honor Mr Ong Ye Kung (Senior Minister of State for Defence)

For N.E.mation! 11, students are asked to use their creativity to produce animation clips centred on the theme of “Together We Keep Singapore Strong“. The animation clips produced by the top 10 finalist teams will be judged by a panel comprising industry professionals and the public. The public can vote for their three favourite clips in Facebook or via SMS. The winning team will win a coveted trip to visit renowned animation studios in the USA!

THE THEME FOR N.E.MATION!12 IS:
TOGETHER WE KEEP SINGAPORE STRONG

Total defence remains our best defence and all-round response to threats and challenges that confront Singapore on all fronts – military, civil, economic, social and psychological. The evolving threats we face, including hybrid warfare, terrorism, cyber-attacks, pandemics, require all Singaporeans to continue playing our part to protect Singapore and our shared way of life. As long as we remain united and resilient, we will be able to overcome any challenges.

PASSIONFRUITS – PASSIONFRUIT

wooAHHH HELLO HELLO HELLO! It’s your favorite passionfruits back here again, after two weeks of intense voting and studying! Sorry that we’ve been kind of MIA on this site, the very lazy and stressed writer of this particular post just loves to procrastinate

But aside from our super tiring and boring lives, Downtown picnic was a Super cool event and a REALLY great thanks to all of you who came down!!

We finally got a taste of how it was like to try and gather votes, and believe us, it doesn’t get easier. It was tiring and fun and nerve wrecking, and the moment we stood on the stage, answering the questions, our knees were shivering like, look at our faces:

that’s the look of pure terror there. But still, no matter how scary that was, it was a lot of fun. So many people came down to vote! It was really very overwhelming, so thanks to all our wonderful friends, family, and even teachers who came down to support us!❤

But the fun and games are over and we’re currently in the middle of voting! Yeah…it’s not as great as it sounds though. Imagine scurrying to find friends and family to help vote not once, but four times, and refreshing the NEmation page.

Days and weeks past by and we are currently still in the top 5! Even though we were kicked out like twice, we still managed to scavenge enough votes to at least be in the top 5. To others, we probably look like this

Then again, 70% of our votes could not be possible without the help of our entire school cohort, teachers, and non-teaching staff! They were all so cooperative and supportive, hope you all read this and receive our heartfelt thanks and love!!❤✨❤

Also, another special occasion graced us just today! If you have been onto our instagram page, you would have noticed birthday cakes, cuddly pictures, a random video of Mabel’s birthday from two months ago. Guessed what occasion was it? That’s right, it’s our very own Yolanda’s birthday!

Happy Birthday Yolanda! May you continue to always be funny and get threatened by Mr Nova with pencils

HELP US FIND OUR SANITY!!!

도와 주세요!!!!!

(please save me!!!!!)

The four of us are having a very stressful CNY!! Sadly, we have just dropped out of the Top 5, and we are working really hard over the remaining days to pull back up! [ Chris had to overcome her ball-lessness and ask her relatives whom she is afraid of ]

So far, we have traveled to many malls, bus stands, mrt stations, you name it, we’ve probably been there. But! We are not giving up just yet!. Wan has went overseas to Penang to meet her relatives, some of whom are Singaporean/Pr [Thank Goodness!]

We desperately need YOUR help!!  Please take this weekend to VOTE FOR US!! It doesn’t take very long to vote AND spread the word! Don’t forget, you may also stand a chance to win attractive prizes if you vote! What are you waiting for? Its easy, free, and a step closer to a prize!

LET US SOAR TO THE TOP . . . DINOSTORY. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! #C03

HELLO MY BELOVED READERS!

As you all may know (or may not.. heh), the voting period is going to end in a few more days which also means that our journey as dinos is going to end very soon. I know that we’ve been not as active as the rest of the teams. The team and I are truly sorry about that since we kinda got caught up with our own lives in school.

Anyways, I’ll be posting blogs until the last day of voting (which is on Sunday) about our experiences throughout this whole amazing journey in N.E.mation11! but before that let me just share about the Downtown Picnic!

* We want to thank all our teachers, friends and families who came down to support us during the event. Love you guys! *

The Downtown Picnic was a blast as everyone was able to enjoy free food, free live performances, some games, meet DJs and also not forgetting… meeting special guest, Night Owl Cinematics! – they were awesome and I still can’t believe Ryan was an ex-kentridgean?!

There were also some lucky draws and all the teams were able to share more about their clips. Honestly, nothing could be scarier than talking with a mic on stage, in front of an audience but I guess I’m getting used to it. My team and I didn’t have much preparation beforehand but manage to put the booth together using our creativity.

Moving on to the event we recently had…. Team Promo in School. We were very honoured to have Mr Nova and Ms Hazel to be our guest speakers for one of our assembly talks. During Assembly, they shared with the school about animation and how N.E.mation! came about. It was nice to see some of our schoolmates learning how to create a simple animated clip of a bouncing ball using just plasticine, for the ball, some paper for the background, and an iphone as a camera. To get our school to support us, we shared our experiences and showed a montage of our journey in N.E.mation! – credits to Farihah for editing the ‘cringe’ worthy video, haha.

Stay tuned for the next blog where I’ll be sharing our journey from Top 100 to Top 20! (Hint: Storyboarding & Pitching)

VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! It’s all about votes guys so don’t forget to vote our team’s clip – The Olympian; there’s always an olympian in each of us!

GEEKSTRUX: GONG-GONG TO THE CHA-CHA RETURNS PART TWOO

Hello guys! Its been so long gosh sorry we were just so so so busy busy busy with school work lol (sleeping on average at 1am everyday and not finishing homework still great life) not exaggerating though I mean it cries.

But here’s our very overdued post from like months ago cause i forgot to post it up although we drafted it so long ago woops but here it goes!!

When we came back after the 3 weeks, we decided to get gong cha again. Mae and Nika hid the drinks in their pockets, thinking she will not see. -.-
The next day, Ms Heather told us not to get it any more as it is unhealthy. Nika then said,

“She said that we cannot get gongcha so we shall get Each in a Cup instead.”

wowiez.

Once Ms Heather left with other instructors, we sneaked out of the lounge. (Poor Wan Ting who did not want bubble tea still had to follow them for no apparent reason).

The adventure started off wrong right from the start. The 2 paranoid members got scared by Mr Joshua at the entrance, when all he did was just walk in.
We ran to Each in a Cup, constantly looking behind to check if there is someone chasing after us.

RUN RUN (tb to safra recording)
On out way back, Mae suddenly shouted that the instructors were on the bridge, and we quickly went back.
Wan Ting reminded them of how silly they were as they were talking about the plan out loud with another instructor inside…..and Ms Heather could ask him where we were. It was also very obvious where we went. Its either Gong Cha or Each in a Cup.

On the escalator, we were talking if Ms Heather was back already. Two instructors turned around and we asked them, “Do you know where Ms Heather is?”
Just as we were about to turn right to the lounge, we saw the backs of Ms Heather and Ms Ying Hui. We instantly braked and hid behind the wall, judged by both

DINOSTORY PART2. HAVE YOU VOTED?

Haloo again lovely readers!

Have you voted??? It’s the last 50 hours before voting ends!

Today I shall share with you guys….the BEGINNING of DinoSoar’s journey in N.E.mation11! Yup, how did we even get started?

Well..Farihah, Iqmal, Jihan and myself (Putri) first applied as a CCA. Yes we are from the same CCA – Media Club

We were eager to try our luck in this competition and so we submitted our story that was inspired by Joseph Schooling. The gold medalist who helped bring glory to our nation.

Cheers to Joseph Schooling! ^

We were so shocked to received news from our teachers that we have made it to the Top 100 selection.

Top 100 briefing^^

During the Top 100 briefing, we had a mini excursion to MAS to learn about economic defence, one of the five pillars of total defence. In MAS, we learn how we keep the economic in Singapore stable and how they overcome economic crisis such as the Global Economic Crisis.

Jihan in the MAS gallery ^
From then onwards we had tough times waking up early to practise our pitches, ending on late afternoons to keep on refining and refining and refining our story. The amount times we had to redo our story was countless but our concept of olymtism still stays the same. If they was one thing we learnt through out the whole experience from Top 100 to Top 20 was that storyboard was the key to any production. I guess you can say that it is like the foundation to the building you want to built.
