Jelvetica – Wrap Party

Hello! This is Bianca reporting again, this time about the Wrap Party that was held on the last Friday of production! It was a wonderful experience and I could understand why Daphne was so excited for it (seeing as this is her second year doing NEmation!) and I wasn’t disappointed! The confetti, the dancing and even the cleaning up was fun and I felt that it was really a great way to end the 3 weeks of production, allowing us to let loose and have fun!

Here are some photos I took during the party!:
We actually had trouble opening the children’s bottle of sparkling juice and had to ask Weisong to help us. Thank you!

Rebekah came to celebrate with us too! You can see Daphne pouring drinks for her and Alyssa.

Throwing confetti on an unsuspecting victim

Stocking up on confetti!!!

Here, our SST friends help us cover Rebekah in confetti. TEAMWORK!

An instax of Rebekah, Alyssa and Daphne throwing confetti in the air! (With my horrible aim)

How we show our appreciation to the lovely Jamie for all her help :-)

Instaxes of me and Alyssa going a bit crazy with the confetti

Alyssa, Rebekah, Valencia, Jamie and Daphne taking a group photo!

Waiting for the toilet light to go off to commence playing the last few rounds of the toilet game. I have a feeling the light never went off/someone else went in and so we never got to play it…. yet.

(Observe toilet light = on) Daphne and Valencia looking quite cool!

This was the only photo I had of Gina and I really want to thank her for helping us, teaching us how to paint and buying us junk food (and even offering me her hashbrown!) Thank you!!!

Rebekah going a bit wonky with her lights when we were jumping around the “dance floor”

Me, Daphne and Alyssa with J.K.!

Valencia, Me, Alyssa and Daphne

A quick fix to the unglamorous photo they took :-(

Janice and Shiling!

And finally, we get to play the toilet game. (Side note – did you know hand dryers are also activated by flash? Thus I got  very freaked out every time I took a photo and the hand dryer came on).

And after all the celebrations we had to finish filming the mosquito scene, then we were done!

I hope you enjoyed the wrap party as much as I did!

Jelvetica – Week Three

Hello! This is Daphne here! I’ve been sent here to report to you on our third, and sadly, final, week of NEmation production. This is a pretty delayed post so pardon me if I miss out any important details.

In the third week, all we had left to do was the last couple of scenes of the cardboard animation and the whole of the bag animation. Now that I think of it, it seems like quite a lot, but actually it wasn’t that much because most of our time during the three weeks was spent on pre-production.

On Monday, we managed to finish the whole of the bag scene because Shiling decided that if we did start on the cardboard animation, we would be distracted by the constant going in and out of people. Monday was the day that parents and teachers of the top 10 teams came and there were really a whole lot of people moving from tent to tent. So being the obedient kids, we listened to Shiling and stayed in the somewhat secluded place and shot our bag scenes. Here are some of the photos.

Still working on the bag

While Bianca and Alyssa were starting the bag scene, I had to finish painting the medics in our tent. Here are some of the pictures of the uncompleted medics and finally the total defence sign that we had traced and cut out.

There were many other things that happened in the last week. It’s going to become one big blur soon but I’m sure all three of us savoured every moment of it. We managed to finish everything before we left on Friday night so we didn’t have to go back to Nanyang Poly to finish up our clip.

Bianca has the pictures of the wrap party so I’ll let her tell you guys on what happened during the party and all that.

Jelvetica – Week Two

Hi this is Alyssa!
Week 2 was extremely tiring and hectic as we were very much behind schedule as we had some changes to our character, and production was already supposed to begin in Week 2. Originally, we had planned to separate the character’s body parts. However, we made the decision to scrap the previous idea and decided to draw a full body of the character, as it would be less tedious.

This is a photo of the full bodies of our character, as well as a folder of the different facial expressions (top left).

Redoing the character’s body was mentally and physically challenging, as we had to re-mix the paint to get the correct shade of green or whichever colour was needed. As for me, I had to cut out every single body again, and it might seem easy, but it is quite mentally challenging to sit there for ±12 hours, using the pen knife and just cutting the same shape all over again.

Highlights of the second week was definitely the start of production. We all had parts of the stop-motion that we were better in, and we would separate the parts accordingly and increased efficiency! We were still behind time by the end of the second week, but we managed to overcome whatever obstacles that came, such as having to redo a certain scene multiple times just to ensure that the clip was good enough.

Here are some photos from Week 2:

A picture of our mixed paint for the army uniform again and a lot of chocolate (courtesy of the NYP student helpers) for energy to continue

Daphne painting the character’s bodies AND kudos to her for re-mixing the 5 different colours every single time we had to redo a body and for painting every single one of the character’s bodies.

Random photo of the tissue box. I must add, this might’ve been our fifth or sixth box, as all of us were still sick during the early part of the second week.

That’s all from me today, hope you enjoyed this slight update on Week 2 :)

Production Week 3 – N.E.mation!6 Ambassador Review (Finale)

The time has come. No, it isn’t the voting season yet! But the time has come for the end of the 3 week Production for the Top 10 Teams of N.E.mation 6, this moment on they will be free doing their last minute holiday homework/assignments or spending the holidays like every other teenager.

As the title says, this will be the finale of my Production Week Ambassador Review, and I won’t be back to do another write up till the awards ceremony or maybe if I get the chance to fly to USA and do another write up about the entire trip with the winning team :P Alright, let’s set aside the jokes.

Unlike the other ambassadors, I decided to do something different, instead of doing my usual question and answer, I thought I’d tape the entire process down and turn it into a 21 Questions kind of thing, like you see in Hollywood where they get those big stars to answer 21 Questions. However, I did not get a chance to talk to all of the Top 10 Teams this time round as some of them were very busy completing their animation video, if you were there you could see how some of the teams were rushing for time to complete it as soon as possible so as to be able to meet the timeline, while some of the teams were still able to manage and afford time to answer 21 questions.

21 Questions with the Finalists of N.E.mation 6!

The teams that I took part in the 21 Questions, did give interesting and funny answers to the question and I do hope you enjoyed watching it as much as I do.
Frankly speaking, I’m still new to video editting, therefore you might find errors here and there, so yeah, do notify me if you spot any errors so that I can learn from my mistakes!

Alright, we shall move on with their wrap up party they had on that very last day of production, there would be no more work, and all fun and play for the teams cause they would have probably been stressed out by then. It was like a mini-grand party! There was food, drinks even people from the media came too!

But before that, they had an appreciation moment for the following special group of people :

The Instructors from Animagine

P1040258

The Student Helpers

P1040263

P1040268

P1040270

P1040271

P1040273

And yes, as it was mentioned on that very day itself, it was kinda like a very grand yet mini graduation ceremony for the Top 10 Teams and I’m sure they’ll never forget this experience too! It was a happy occassion for all. Now time for some party pictures!

There was a wide range of food served during the party.

While some of them were getting their food, some of them were still playing with the confetti!

P1040221

P1040210

I’m sure everyone had a great time there and so did I.

If you’ve followed me since the beginning (since the day I blogged about joining this competition) you would remember this picture.

P1010795

and all these while I’ve tried perfecting it and this is the updated version! (See the difference?)

P1040386

This goes to show that putting in time and effort, your fruit of labour can turn out really nice! The first picture took me 15- 20 minutes to draw, so yeah, you can tell that I didn’t really put in much time nor effort!

Once again, there are more pictures, do take a look at it, click here to view them! That’s all I have for the finale and we’ll just wait and see if there’ll be another blog post coming soon!

Trivia behind N.E.mation!6 Part 2

This will be the final part of Trivia behind N.E.mation6! Since this would be the last part to the Trivia, I will be giving away awards! (Not real awards with trophies…)

Alright, first up, I would be giving away the award to the Team that has the best Interior Design for their tent.

And the winner goes to…..

Team HUNGRY MONSTERS

Let’s take a look at their tent!

IMG_1516

IMG_1419

IMG_1331

It’s rather obvious that they deserve this award due to the amount of things they put in their tent, it really looks very artistic like a real studio.

Next up, we have the best Exterior Design award.

& the award goes to Team EATYOUUP

IMG_1391

IMG_1546

IMG_1544

They took the effort to decorate the outside of their tent to beautify their work area to keep themselves in a happy mood because they believe that a happy work environment leads to better work performance!

Next award would be for the ones who have managed to survive the 3 week production!

Hahas, basically all the teams deserve this award! It’s not easy to keep the level of interest during the 3 weeks, if it was me I would have been interested in the 1st week and might have just loss interest during the 2nd or 3rd week. So yeah, kudos to all the Top 10 Teams!

At the end of the day, I just want everyone to know that, everyone’s a winner, it’s just the way of how you look at things from different angles.

NEmation! 6 Production Special: Wrap Party & Celebration

Hi Folks,

Here is my last post for 2011 on NEmation! 6 to wrap up my coverage for the activities during Production Week and what better way to wrap it up than with photos and videos of your Wrap Party & Celebration!!

It's Celebration!!

It's Celebration!!

I’ll keep this short with some specially selected photos, 1 photo slideshow of your celebration and 1 video of some crazy dance routines.

Celebration I : Thank You’s

There were many Thank You’s that flew around in all directions starting with official recognition of the special efforts and dedication by the Instructors from Animagine who guided, mentored and helped the Top 10 Teams in almost any way they could.

Thanks To The Instructors From Animagine

Can You Name Them?

How About Them?

Next … special Thanks were given to the helpers/Assistants from Nanyang Polytechnic.

Thanks To The Helpers From NYP

Some Of Them Spend So Much Time Helping, It Makes Me Wonder If They Had Decided To Skip Some Class

Of course, the Thank You’s also flow from the participants to the Instructors.

Love Letters To The Instructors

And from Instructors to the Participants.

Presents To Participants From The Instructors

Plus some participants have quirkier ways to “Thank” their Instructors … check them out below:

And Finally Toast, Toast and Bottoms Up!! (Oh and keep a look out for Kok Yin’s Yum Seng Pic in the slideshow … best viewed in full screen mode … every picture is unique)

Celebration III – Rocking The House Down

OK … they didn’t quite rock the house down … but I’m pretty sure if the Party Rocks till 3AM … it probably would.

All the pictures I’d taken could not convey the Party Mood so I’ve put together a short video to share. (Watch out for Jing Heng’s Shuffling and Fabian’s Handstand)

Celebration IV – Cleaning Up

Of course with all the partying and popping, there would be tons of rubbish to clean up and that’s what everyone chipped in to do.

Cleaning Up After The Party I

It was a hell of a party.

I also heard that it was the craziest and loudest ever in NEmation history!!

Well done … you folks know how to work hard and party harder :)

What’s Next?

3 Weeks of NEmation! 6 Production came, flash by and it was over … the instructors are probably still doing post production as I write this post.

18 January is the date to mark on your calendar when the finalist teams’ animation clips are finally unveiled! Log on to www.nemation.sg or www.facebook.com/nemation to support them and help them realise their dream of visiting DreamWorks Animation in the USA! Every vote counts!

Public voting will be on from 18 January to 07 February 2012.

Good Luck And See You In 2012!!

Cheers,
James

Note1 : All Photos & Videos Taken With Canon EOS 600D.

Note2 : All Works Were Taken In Week 3 Day 5 of NEmation! 6 Production.

Note3 : Food Was Served During The Party So No One Starved And No Alcohol Was Served … So Parents And Teachers Need Not Worry :)

Week 3: Hysteria

Instructors helping

Happy holidays everyone!

The third week of N.E.Mation is the last week for all the students. I don’t want to repeat the same things like what the other ambassadors are writing so, be sure to check Marcus and James’ posts too!

Like this one by James about what method each group is doing for their animation or this one by Marcus that has a lot of pictures on all of the groups!

Finishing up

Everyone’s props are pretty much finished. The beginning of the week was filled with relative silence and a buzz of nervousness.

Just imagine N.E.Mation to be like an episode of Junior Masterchefs but with less cooking and more animation. It is that kind of energy.

Bloggers!

While the groups were doing their work (by this time, their tents have signs pasted on them with the words “Don’t disturb, production in progress” etc and their “doors” were shut), visitors came by in the afternoon or evening.

Visitors like their parents, teachers and even the companies that sponsored the equipment for this competition.

The groups now know how to talk to the media for interviews with all the practice they had too.

~TIME SHIFT TO THE LAST DAY~

Photo taking for the media

Everyone was finishing up, either saving their files or just recording the last few bits of a scene for their animation.

That and getting their pictures taken by the media!

Bottles to be recycled

They have a lot to clean up too since they’ll have to pack all their stuff, latest Saturday morning.

Last briefing

And then, we have the last briefing. Everyone was more or less completed anyway and people were ready to party.

Thanking the instructors

First, a thanks to the instructors since they helped the groups in planning on how to go about their animation and showing them or discussing how to solve problems that each of the groups they looked after had.

Student helpers too

Next, to all the student helpers too! They were there to help the groups in cutting pieces of paper, generally helping out and bringing morale up to the students!

Poppers!

And finally, time to party!

Cheers!

Sodas were all poured and everyone yam seng-ed to a successful N.E.Mation 6!

Finally, to eat!

Yesss, finally everyone got to eat. No more school foodcourt food for the evening or fast food. Finally, catered food for everyone in the end.

Finally, finally everyone can now rest.

Except the instructors since they’ll take the animations files the groups did and churn them out for broadcast quality with audio too.

Also, a mini dance party happened and of course, everyone helped to clean up in the evening! I wasn’t sure if I was in a Glee episode then since it ended with Rebecca Black’s Friday too…

Cheers to all the groups! We’ll see who will win the ultimate prize in 2012 when the voting and judging starts!

Trivia behind N.E.mation6! Part 1

toilet game copy

Just thought I’d share this with you guys!  The Toilet Game is one of the more common games between the Top 10 Teams during their Three Week Production at Nanyang Polytechnic’s Toilet. :)
